i haven't heard of MyPaint but i've been using Krita for 2-3 years now (with breaks throughout ofc) and i can really recommend it! it's quite customisable if you're willing to look for the options,
also speaking from experience, i found GIMP pretty clunky, but maybe i just haven't gotten used to it
